![]() For self-rising flour, for every cup use 1 cup of all-purpose flour plus 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. If you are fresh out of buttermilk, for every cup, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to a measuring cup. You might not have either of these ingredients on hand and in a pinch, there are some substitutions you can make. Substitues for Self-Rising Flour and Buttermilk This will also work for leftover biscuits (that is if you have any!). ![]() Of course if you really have to bake your biscuits the day before, you can reheat them by wrapping the biscuits in foil and baking at 350☏ for about 15 minutes. Do not let the batter sit too long before baking because the baking powder will start to activate. Add the buttermilk right before you are ready to bake them. To prep the day before, you can measure out all the ingredients and cut the butter into the flour. But the good news is, they are super easy so you can make them quickly, even on a busy day or holiday. These biscuits are best served the day you make them. I am going to be quite honest with you here. These biscuits rise up nicely and with the tops brushes with a little butter, you’ll be in heaven in about half an hour. The resulting batter is quite wet and soft, but there’s no need to roll it out – just scoop it into your floured hands, tossing it back and forth to shape it ever to slightly and put it right next to its neighbor in the baking pan. It creates morsels of butter that are just the right size without having to cut the butter into the flour with a fork or two knives. I think the technique of grating the butter into the flour is a fantastic trick to have in your toolkit. I borrowed some technique from Shirley Corriher (a cookbook author whom I greatly admire) and played with different soft self-rising flours (settling on this one here). I wanted it to be easy to make and yet full of flavor. I wanted a biscuit that crumbled as you bit into it and yet wasn’t dry inside.

![]() To estimate water usage early, we will take the bed count (260 beds + 200 future) and multiply the beds by 300 gpd. The 300 gpd/bed (for plumbing) is good for larger facilities, but needs should be adjusted lower for smaller facilities (you will gain more finesse through time). The gpd/bed has been decreasing over the last decade, so it is important to understand the building to which you will be providing water. Based on its data, the median hospital use of gpd/bed would be 315 gallons. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program monitors water use at more than 960 hospitals around the country. ![]() I found 300 gpd/bed to be a good average number for this facility size for starting early calculations. This means that your 460-bed hospital could use as much as 138,000 gallons of water each day. He estimates the average daily consumption between 235 gpd/bed and 300 gpd/bed (excluding mechanical). This 300 gpd/bed is also referenced in the ASPE out-of-print publication, “High-Rise Plumbing Design” by Alfred Steele. This chart indicates a range from 132 to 251 gallons/day (gpd) per bed, with a typical of 172 gpd/bed for a hospital. In addition to the mechanical makeup, Table 8-8 in the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) “Design Handbook Wastewater Flows, Volume 2” includes a chart that can be used to determine how much water you may need for the hospital. To estimate the water needs for your project, you will need to obtain an estimate for what your mechanical engineer needs in makeup water in gallons/day. The line sizes will be revisited and refined as the building gets more defined. While gathering this information, you will need to evaluate the domestic water usage, as the civil engineer will need to prepare for line sizes and locations early in the design. ![]() Will there be any future growth for the facility? The project infrastructure will need to be considered for the facility’s expansion in the future.Determine what systems will be considered redundant. ![]() You might be able to get a flow test from the fire protection engineer otherwise, you will need to make a few assumptions on water pressure and quality until it comes through.

Despite some turbulence, Ethereum's crowdfunding campaign was a success. The Ethereum team established the Ethereum Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Switzerland, to oversee the development of Ethereum's open-source software. The team raised over 31,000 BTC from the sale of ETH, which was approximately $18 million at the time. With its activation, the Ethereum platform took off, and technological behemoths such as IBM and Microsoft became interested in the project. Buterin and his team were able to present the first fully functional version of Ethereum, Frontier, in 2015, after a lengthy crowdfunding campaign. EVM is the primary Ethereum technology on which the scripting-rich language demonstrates its full potential. This describes how the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) works. Following this initial advance, Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood published an Ethereum technical book. The birth of Ethereum Buterin began developing Ethereum in order to address flaws that he saw in projects such as Bitcoin and published his whitepaper in 2013. Peter Thiel, a billionaire, established his own "Thiel Fellowship." The organization offered Vitalik a $100,000 grant, prompting him to drop out of the University of Waterloo and focus full-time on Ethereum. Vitalik was still looking for new opportunities in 2014. With his success, he was able to collaborate with many other developers all over the world. Vitalik took bronze in the International Olympiad in Informatics in 2012. During that time, he took advanced cryptography courses and worked as a research assistant for Ian Goldberg, the former Tor Project board chairman and co-creator of Off-the-Record Messaging. Buterin decided to attend the University of Waterloo after graduating from high school. Vitalik Buterin would use that experience to co-found Bitcoin Magazine at the end of 2011. He received five bitcoins for each article he published. Instead, Vitalik found work writing blog posts about the topic. He lacked the equipment to mine coins and the funds to buy them. While Vitalik was interested in Bitcoin, he had no way of obtaining it. Buterin learned the fundamentals of bitcoin from his father when he was 17 years old.
